William E. Corbin

William Edward Corbin
SAVANNAH – William E. Corbin, 77, of Savannah, passed away peacefully at home under the care of Hospice Savannah, May 28, 2010.
Born in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Thaddeus and Edna Jolly Corbin.
He attended Cincinnati public schools, graduating from Withrow High School in 1951 and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1955 with a degree in political science and criminology. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Mr. Corbin received his commission as 2nd Lt. through the Air Force ROTC program at the University of Kentucky. He received his wings at Greenville Air Force Base, Greenville, MS, graduating first in his class.
After serving three years in the Air Force he started his civilian career with Mountain Bell Telephone Co. in Phoenix, AZ, going through their two year management training program. From there he transferred to Denver, CO, then Colorado Springs, New York City, and back to Denver, where his family lived from 1969 to 1984, in Parker, CO.
He and seven other families helped to get a full time minister at the Parker United Methodist Church for the first time since the church was built in 1912. He served as the first chairman of the Council of Ministries. He played baseball for the Parker Bisons and refereed Little League games.
In 1984 Mr. Corbin was transferred to Whippany, NJ where he retired as Vice-President of Rates and Tariffs for all the Bell Systems after the AT&T divestiture and the independent phone companies with The National Exchange Carriers Association.
In 1988 Bill and his wife retired to The Landings on Skidaway Island where he was active in the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, the Billy Blitz Group, and volunteer work in social services through the area.
Bill was a devoted family man, admired and respected by all those who knew him.
Surviving are his wife of 54 ½ years, Susan Druley Corbin; two daughters, Wyndy Corbin Rueschling and her husband Michael of Ashland, OH, and Rebecca Corbin Kidd and her husband Bryan of Avondale Estates, GA; a son, William Frances Corbin II of Denver, CO; and a grandson, William Riley Kidd.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church.
Interment will be in the Grand View Cemetery in Mentor, KY.
